For Authors
Publishing as a commons – not a gate
Oakist Press is not a traditional publisher. There are no gatekeepers, no contracts that take control of your work, and no extraction of profit from the publishing process.
Instead, we operate as a publishing commons. Each book is supported by a temporary, voluntary group formed specifically to help bring that work into the world.
You retain control. We provide structure, support and shared labour where it is wanted.
What we need from you
- Title of the manuscript
- Author(s)
- A short summary (around 100 words)
- Whether the book includes images (and if colour)
- Current stage of the manuscript
- Rough completion timeline
- Whether you want to discuss options with us
Costs and process
Production costs are agreed transparently before printing. The author enters into the print contract directly unless otherwise agreed.
Costs are covered first. Any surplus belongs to the author.
Oakist Press does not take royalties or profit from the publishing process.
